The Opportunity
This is a rare and influential opportunity to play a pivotal role in setting and embedding best-practice governance and compliance frameworks across a network of schools in NSW. Reporting directly to the NSW Board, the State Manager, Governance and Business Services will be responsible for ensuring NSW schools operate with integrity, accountability and compliance across key operational and compliance functions including WHS, Risk, HR, Finance, IT, Insurance, Transport, and Child Safety compliance.
This is a role for a seasoned leader with a deep understanding of education environments, regulatory obligations, and enterprise risk management.

What You’ll Do
- Establish and embed effective frameworks for risk, compliance, and governance
- Provide coaching and strategic advice to the NSW Board to ensure alignment with legal and ethical obligations
- Ensure readiness for internal and external audits through robust policy and reporting frameworks
- Collaborate with national stakeholders to build a culture of compliance and shared accountability
- Develop and deliver reports, insights, and recommendations to the Board and relevant committees
- Identify risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies across all operational domains.
To thrive in this role, you will bring:
- Senior-level governance and compliance experience ideally in the Australian education sector
- Proven success advising or coaching Boards or senior leadership on best-practice governance and risk strategies
- Strong understanding of ISO standards and WHS legislation
- A relevant tertiary qualification in law, finance, risk, governance, or similar
- A certification in Data Protection and/or Privacy (e.g., CIPP, CIPT, ISEB) is highly desirable.
- The ability to operate both strategically and operationally in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment
- A collaborative, resilient and hands-on leadership style.
