St Vincent de Paul Society NSW (Vinnies NSW) supports people experiencing poverty, disadvantage, and homelessness across the state. They offer a hand up to people in need by respecting their dignity, sharing hope, and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny.
This 12-month contract role sits within the Strategy & Engagement directorate and will develop state-wide external facing content and communications across Vinnies NSW key marketing channels, targeting a diverse range of audiences.
In this role, you will
- Plan & deliver external comms that support priorities across all directorates (Fundraising, Services, Retail, MVEI, Government Relations & Policy).
- Lead media relations : craft pitches and releases, secure coverage, handle enquiries and interviews, and prepare speaking notes in line with media policy.
- Create compelling content across channels (media releases, case studies, scripts, backgrounders, website, social, blogs) and guide social calendars.
- Produce publications : lead timelines, drafting, editing and proofreading, including the Annual Report; interview clients, members, staff and volunteers.
- Support local PR : equip Central/Regional Councils and Conferences with local angles, press releases and digital collateral to tell the Vinnies NSW story.
- Own reporting & systems : maintain media contact databases, publish releases online, monitor media/social, and deliver monthly coverage reports.
About you
You’re an agile, proactive communicator who thrives in a fastโmoving media environment. You build trusted relationships quickly, translate complex work into clear stories, and stay calm and solutionsโfocused under pressure. Purposeโdriven and collaborative, you’re motivated by meaningful impact across NSW communities.
What you’ll bring
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, marketing, journalism or similar.
- 5+ years in media/communications with a track record of proactive pitching and coverage.
- Strength in reactive media and issues management, with sound judgement and nuance.
- Excellent writing and editing for digital and print; adaptable to brief and audience.
- Stakeholder savvy: strong rapportโbuilding with journalists and internal partners.
- Organised, deadlineโdriven and adaptable; NSW driver licence and alignment with the Society’s mission and Code of Conduct.
