About the Role
Reporting to the Acting Head of Marketing and working closely with NBCF’s research team, the Science Communications Specialist is responsible for translating complex breast cancer research into accessible, engaging, and scientifically sound content that supports:
  • Donor engagement and retention
  • Fundraising campaigns
  • Brand awareness activity
  • Stakeholder presentations and internal training
You'll craft stories that bring research to life, spark curiosity, and help people understand why research matters — and why supporting NBCF is the most effective way to create meaningful change.
  
Key Responsibilities
Content Development & Translation
  • Simplify complex research into lay-friendly materials tailored for a range of audiences — from the general public to major donors and corporate supporters.
  • Write and edit a wide range of content: newsletters, donor proposals, media releases, social posts, web pages, SEO/SEM copy, internal resources, and more.
  • Ensure all materials are scientifically accurate, on-brand, and aligned with NBCF’s tone and messaging.
  • Develop training tools for staff to communicate research confidently and clearly.
Proactive Research Communications
  • Develop regular research updates in line with NBCF’s funding objectives and content pillars.
  • Proactively identify relevant research content that aligns with NBCF’s content strategy, such as quarterly content themes
  • Contribute to awareness campaigns that showcase the impact of NBCF-funded research.
  • Identify and create new opportunities to amplify research impact across NBCF’s platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
  • Work closely with NBCF’s Research team to understand funded projects and communicate key insights effectively
  • Work closely with all Fundraising teams to identify and provide relevant content to support a wide variety of Fundraising campaign objectives
  • Champion scientific integrity while creating accessible and emotionally resonant content.
About You
You're a science communicator or medical writer who thrives on making research meaningful for everyday people. You have experience balancing scientific rigour with creative flair targeted at , and you’re comfortable juggling multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Essential
  • A degree in a science-related field
  • Demonstrated experience in science communication or medical writing
  • Excellent understanding of medical and research terminology
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex scientific concepts into lay language, and humanise complex topics.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
Desirable
  • Postgraduate qualification in health communication or similar
  • Experience working in a fundraising or donor engagement context
  • Familiarity with digital content production, SEO, and content strategy
  • Strategic thinker with stakeholder management skills and a collaborative mindset
