This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys improving processes, solving problems, and bringing structure to complex environments. You'll work closely with an experienced Finance Director and play a key role in strengthening financial controls, improving reporting, and helping build more sustainable ways of working across the finance function.
The organisation is looking to move quickly, with interviews available next week and flexibility for the right candidate if a short notice period is required.
The Opportunity
Joining a finance team of approximately seven, you'll take ownership of core financial accounting activities while contributing to broader finance improvement initiatives. You'll be trusted to work independently, challenge existing processes, and help restore confidence in reporting, controls and month-end disciplines. This role offers strong exposure to senior stakeholders and the chance to make a visible impact within a growing organisation.
Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and review reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments
- Strengthen financial controls and improve reporting accuracy
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
- Partner with operational stakeholders to improve financial processes and data quality
- Identify and implement practical process improvements that reduce manual effort and increase efficiency
- Support audit activities and maintain audit-ready records
- Contribute to broader finance transformation and system improvement initiatives
- Document processes and build greater resilience across finance operations
We're interested in people who are commercially minded, adaptable and comfortable working in environments where not everything is fully established.
You'll bring:
- Minimum 5 years' financial accounting experience
- CA or CPA qualification, or currently working towards completion
- Strong month-end, reconciliation, reporting and audit experience
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience working with complex data sets, manual processes and evolving systems
- Strong problem-solving capability and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- A proactive and hands-on approach to improving processes and controls
- Experience within education, training, higher education, VET, professional services or another complex multi-site environment
- Experience supporting finance transformation or process improvement initiatives
- Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing organisation
- Exposure to senior leadership and business partnering activities
- Broad and varied role with genuine improvement projects
- Flexible hybrid working arrangements
- Collaborative leader who values practical solutions and accountability
- Immediate need, with the opportunity to quickly become a trusted finance partner within the business
Due to the urgent nature of this appointment, applications will be reviewed as they are received and interviews may commence before the closing date.
