A leading organisation is seeking an experienced Australian payroll professional to step into a critical Payroll Lead position and provide stability across a complex payroll environment.

  • Opportunity to lead meaningful payroll transformation projects
  • Join an organisation committed to strengthening payroll processes, systems and controls
The role

You'll provide expertise across Australian payroll compliance while supporting a team and helping improve payroll processes, controls and systems.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading and supporting end-to-end Australian payroll processing
  • Providing day-to-day guidance to a remote payroll team
  • Ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance and continuity
  • Managing payroll reconciliations, reporting and exception management
  • Reviewing payroll controls, documentation and standard operating procedures
  • Supporting payroll integration, systems and process improvement initiatives
  • Partnering closely with Finance, HR and operational stakeholders
  • Providing expert advice on awards, leave, superannuation, terminations and payroll legislation
  • Identifying and addressing payroll risks, inefficiencies and manual workarounds
About you
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical payroll capability with excellent stakeholder management skills.
You'll bring:
  • Extensive Australian payroll experience in a complex environment
  • Strong knowledge of modern awards, NES, superannuation, leave and termination payments
  • Experience leading or mentoring payroll teams
  • A hands-on approach and willingness to support payroll processing when required
  • Strong reconciliation, reporting and payroll controls experience
  • Experience improving payroll processes, documentation and compliance frameworks
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build credibility quickly
  • A collaborative and solution-focused approach
Highly regarded:
  • Education sector experience
  • Experience interpreting and applying education-related awards
  • Employment Hero or similar payroll/HRIS experience
  • Experience in payroll projects, integrations or payroll transformation initiatives
