The Role – Human Resources Advisor

Our client, MGA Independent Businesses Australia, is a respected membership-based organisation supporting over 2,600 independent businesses nationwide. They are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Human Resources Advisor to join their Advisory Team. In this role, you will be the first point of contact for members, responding to their queries over the phone. You’ll provide accurate, practical and timely advice, guiding members through a range of workplace and employment-related issues. Each day brings variety, as you listen to member concerns, identify their needs, and deliver clear, confident solutions in a supportive and professional manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate, timely, and practical advice across all areas of employee and industrial relations.
  • Support members in interpreting industrial instruments, managing disputes, and implementing effective people management strategies.
  • Advise on compliance with workplace legislation, awards, and enterprise agreements.
  • Assist with performance management, misconduct, disciplinary, and grievance processes.
  • Mentor and guide members through workplace challenges, helping them build effective and confident people management practices.
  • Attend meetings with members and external stakeholders, contributing to MGA’s advocacy efforts and member representation.
  • Support MGA’s internal workforce initiatives and contribute to a positive, respectful, and productive workplace culture.
What We’re Looking For
  • Tertiary qualification in HR or related field
  • Proven experience delivering professional HR advice in a client-facing or member-based environment
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts for diverse audiences
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
  • Tech-savvy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems
Desirable but Not Essential
  • Experience in retail or small business environments
  • Understanding of issues impacting independent businesses
  • Experience in membership-based organisations
