The Role:  

The Opportunity Reporting directly to the Executive Head of College, the Head of Commercial Operations is a key member of the Senior College Leadership Team. This is a strategic, high-impact position providing oversight of all business, financial, operational, project management and compliance functions to ensure the College operates with integrity, sustainability, and alignment to its Christian mission.

You will lead the delivery of multimillion-dollar capital projects, oversee contracts and commercial partnerships, and foster a high-performing, people-centred culture.

This role is ideal for a strategic and commercially astute leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is inspired by working within a Christian educational context.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visionary leadership across all business, financial, and operational functions, ensuring alignment with the College’s Christian mission and Strategic Plan 2026–2030.
  • Partner with the Executive Head of College and Senior Leadership Team to drive financial sustainability, operational excellence, and sound governance across five campuses.
  • Oversee financial strategy, budgeting, and reporting to ensure transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Lead major capital and infrastructure projects, delivering value, quality, and effective project governance.
  • Manage commercial contracts, tenders, supplier partnerships, and dispute resolution, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory, and Board requirements.
  • Oversee risk management and compliance frameworks, maintaining policy integrity and operational accountability.
  • Foster a people-focused, faith-aligned culture grounded in respect, service, and excellence.
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, professional development, and wellbeing initiatives that empower high-performing teams.
  • Ensure all campuses and facilities are safe, functional, and inspiring environments that reflect the College’s values and support continued growth.
About You:

You are a strategic, innovative, and relational leader who brings both strong commercial acumen and a heart for people. You thrive in complex, multi-site environments and understand the importance of aligning operational excellence with a faith-based mission.

Essential Criteria:
  • Proven experience in senior leadership across operations, finance, or compliance ideally within education or complex multi-site organisational settings.
  • Strong expertise in contract management, commercial negotiation, and dispute resolution.
  • Demonstrated success delivering large-scale capital or infrastructure projects.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire high performance.
  • Strong systems, technology, and analytical capability.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Law, or a related discipline (postgraduate qualifications desirable).
  • A personal commitment to the Christian faith and the ability to uphold and model Hillcrest’s ethos of ‘Excellence in Christ.’
