About the Role
  
As a member-based organisation, DANA supports a network of 80 community-based advocacy groups that work alongside people with disability to protect and promote their rights. DANA’s role is to build the capacity of the disability advocacy sector, ensuring it remains strong, effective and sustainable.
  
Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer provides leadership and is accountable for delivering on DANA’s strategic objectives, strengthening the disability advocacy sector and ensuring DANA is a respected, sustainable and effective organisation.
  
The board are committed to appointing a person with a disability or who identifies as a member of the disability community and has a solid understanding of the NDIS and disability sector reforms with the knowledge, leadership and advocacy skills required to represent the independent disability advocacy sector at the highest levels.
  
Candidate Profile   
  • A proven commitment to social justice and human rights for people with disability.
  • Demonstrated experience as a CEO, Acting CEO or senior executive in a not-for-profit, peak body, or advocacy organisation, with experience leading high-performing teams and delivering both organisational and systemic outcomes.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement with government, funders, members, and peak bodies to achieve systemic change.
  • High-level business acumen, including organisational strategy, governance, operational planning, and financial oversight.
  • Demonstrated experience of fostering, leading and sustaining high performing, inclusive teams grounded in disability culture and respectful of diverse leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments, balancing diverse perspectives and priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including media spokesperson and public speaking experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully engaging with politicians, senior government officials, sector stakeholders, members and funders.
  • Well-developed strategic, research, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills, with the ability to translate evidence into actionable policy and organisational outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage diverse portfolios, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a high- performing, collaborative environment.
  • Intermediate computer literacy across Microsoft Suite, databases, and cloud-based collaboration tools.  
Essential Education Qualifications
  
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (such as social policy, legal, or disability studies) or equivalent experience.

Work Model, Location and Remuneration
  
Competitive remuneration including base salary, superannuation and salary packaging.
  
This role is fully remote working from a home office.
  
The board is cognisant of the range of skills and attributes required and would be open to a different model to engage the best person, such as job share if this had worked successfully in other leadership roles.
