About the organisation
Grain Trade Australia Ltd (GTA) is the focal point for the commercial grains industry in Australia. Our mission is to ensure an efficient, equitable and open trading environment, delivering value to members through leadership, advocacy and commercial services across the grain value chain. Everything we do is measured against a single question: will this action improve the facilitation of trade?

We are seeking a respected and visionary leader to serve as Chair of the Grain Trade Australia Board, providing independent leadership, strategic direction, and governance oversight to ensure GTA continues to deliver for members and the broader industry.

About the Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Chair will:
  • Lead and enhance the effectiveness of the Board, ensuring strong corporate governance
  • Guide Board deliberations and strategic decision-making
  • Trusted adviser to the CEO and spokesperson for GTA when required
  • Champion the vision and mission of the organisation to members, industry, government and stakeholders
  • Build consensus across the Board and the industry, fostering effective relationships domestically and internationally
  • Proven experience in the grains or agricultural sector, with strong commercial and industry insight.
Key Responsibilities
  • Chair Board meetings, ensuring agendas, schedules and information are well prepared and strategic in focus
  • Mentor and guide Board members to ensure alignment with governance obligations
  • Represent GTA at high-level industry, government and stakeholder engagements
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Support ongoing industry development and member engagement initiatives.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
  • Recognised profile within the commercial grain trade sector, with extensive industry knowledge at a corporate level
  • Senior leadership experience (5 - 7 years) within a membership-based, industry focused, or related commercial environment
  • Exceptional communication, consensus-building and governance skills
  • Experience in setting strategic direction and driving results
  • Strong commercial acumen, policy understanding and advocacy capability
  • The ability to lead a high-calibre, independent Board and represent GTA’s interests domestically and internationally.
