The Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS) is the peak professional body representing medical and clinical scientists across all disciplines of medical laboratory science in Australia. AIMS supports the profession through advocacy, professional standards, events, continuing education and is also the approved assessing authority for the Australian Government Skilled Migration Program, responsible for assessing overseas qualifications and skills in line with professional and government requirements.
About the role:
As the Assessment Officer, you will play a key role in managing the qualifications and skills assessment process for overseas-trained medical laboratory professionals. You will coordinate applications from start to finish, liaising with applicants, referees, migration agents, and government representatives to ensure all information and documentation is complete and accurate.
You will work closely with the assessment committee, with support from an administrative assistant, to prepare assessment packages, monitor applications, and issue outcomes used by applicants for visa purposes.
To be successful you will have:
- Previous experience in a similar role, ideally involving assessments, applications, or professional credentialing.
- Strong customer service and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with applicants, referees, agents, and government representatives.
- A process-driven approach with excellent attention to detail, including the ability to cross-check information and ensure accuracy.
- Professional writing and communication skills, able to produce clear correspondence, reports, and documentation.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
- Manage the end-to-end qualifications and skills assessment process, ensuring applications are complete and accurate.
- Liaise with applicants, referees, migration agents, and government representatives to gather information and provide guidance.
- Prepare assessment packages and issue outcomes to applicants.
- Maintain accurate records, databases, and filing systems.
- Produce reports and documentation for committees and the board.
