Evidence of Cultural Competence and Experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Team Members

Cultural Competence Initiatives

  • 1. Dedicated Inclusion Manager

    We currently have a dedicated Meaningful Work and Inclusion Manager, to spearhead our impact and inclusion programme. Since this appointment, we have built a strong internal culture of inclusion and have implemented new recruitment and selection processes that supports equitable access to the job market for marginalised people. 

  • 2. Cultural Awareness Training

    • We provide regular cultural awareness training for all staff, focusing on the customs, traditions, and communication styles of various cultures, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

    • These sessions are designed to enhance our team's ability to interact respectfully and effectively with candidates from diverse backgrounds and address unconscious bias.

    • Beaumont People drive our own advocacy and awareness internally where staff are onboarded and trained on Impact and Inclusion modules based on our own capability model. 

  • 3. Inclusive Recruitment Practices

    • Accessible Website and Job Boards: Beaumont People use the RECITE ME toolbar for accessibility on our website and are in the process of redesigning the site to achieve Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) AA status. In addition to maintaining our own job board and using inclusive language, we partner with Ethical Jobs, SEEK, and LinkedIn to address specific D&I needs.

    • Our job postings use inclusive language to attract a diverse pool of candidates

    • We ensure that our interview processes are free from unconscious bias, giving all candidates an equal opportunity to showcase their skills and experiences

    • Inclusive Recruitment Practices: During the screening process, candidates are given an option to demonstrate their skills in alternative ways. For example:

    1. Practical assessments instead of verbal interviews.
    2. Artwork as means of expression 
    3. Offering interview questions in advance.
    4. Providing clear, written instructions and expectations.

    • Work Readiness and Onboarding: Beaumont People offer work readiness training, temporary payroll services for short-term immersion, and trauma-informed counselling through our partners. We ensure clear communication is upheld throughout the recruitment process and monitor engagement with the provision of an attachment survey which evaluates the candidates onboarding experience.

  • 4. Community Engagement

    • We actively engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organizations to seek guidance and collaboration on cultural matters This includes partnering with cultural advisers or elders who provide valuable insights and support.

    • Beaumont People are active members of Diversity Council Australia, The Inclusion Circle, RCSA, Glow Up Careers and Job Access Alumni programme. 

    • We have created an open Inclusion Innovators Working Group of +- 110 Leaders across our client database who meet on a regular basis to create a Community of Practise and further advance universal design thinking into HR practises and policies, as well as important information on employee resources groups and embedding Inclusive workplace culture within an organisation. 

  • We also hold regular events across the country on relevant topics to drive Inclusion in the workplace. The last event was around building neuroinclusive workplaces. Mind the Gap – Embracing neurodiversity in the workplace.
  • Beaumont People have contributed to academic research programmes , the last in 2025 was a co creation project where we partnered with QUT and QSEC to create a toolkit titled 'Co-creating meaningful work for people with disability.
  • We have worked on several identified roles, based on our client’s needs. Through our flexible model have been able to adjust the recruitment process to ensure we attract the right candidates to the role.
