The Role
Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic, operational and commercial leadership across all aspects of the organisation. This is a broad and hands-on executive role overseeing membership, hospitality, events, marketing, partnerships, financial performance and team leadership.
Working closely with the President and Board, you will lead the development and implementation of a clear strategic direction while ensuring the organisation continues to deliver an exceptional experience for members and guests.
A key focus of the role will be strengthening commercial performance, enhancing operational effectiveness and driving sustainable membership growth while preserving the unique culture, heritage and sense of community that members value. You will play a key role in strengthening financial sustainability, improving operational performance and identifying opportunities to optimise hospitality, and venue operations while continuing to deliver an exceptional member experience.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Lead the development and implementation of organisational strategy
- Identify opportunities to strengthen membership growth, engagement and retention
- Drive organisational performance, sustainability and long-term success
- Nurture and build trusted relationships across a diverse and multi-generational membership base
- Ensure the organisation continues to deliver an exceptional member experience
- Enhance member engagement while attracting and retaining new generations of members
- Curate and oversee a vibrant program of member and public events
- Develop strategic partnerships that support organisational objectives and visibility
- Act as an ambassador and public representative for the organisation
- Oversee hospitality, and venue operations
- Drive financial performance and accountability across key revenue streams
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, systems and operational efficiency
- Ensure resources are effectively managed to maximise organisational outcomes
- Work closely with the Board to deliver strategic priorities
- Ensure strong governance, compliance and organisational accountability
- Lead, mentor and develop a small and dedicated team
- Lead a collaborative, positive and high-performing culture
Candidate Profile
Experience
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience in hospitality, membership organisations, events, cultural institutions, or related sectors
- Strong commercial and financial management capability
- Experience leading teams and driving organisational performance
- Proven ability to build strategic partnerships and stakeholder relationships
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships, engage influential stakeholders and represent an organisation externally
- Experience working closely with Boards and governance structures
- Strong communication and public-facing skills
- Experience managing hospitality, venue or member based operations
- Background in arts, culture, events, membership organisations or professional associations
- Experience in marketing, business development and community engagement
- Warm, approachable and highly skilled at building relationships
- Commercially minded with strong operational capability
- Confident, polished and comfortable representing the organisation publicly
- Proactive, accountable and solution -oriented
- Able to balance strategic leadership with hands on execution
- Comfortable balancing strategic leadership with operational delivery
