Asthma Australia is seeking an experienced PR and Media Manager to lead and shape its public relations and media function at a pivotal point in the organisation's growth . About the role
Reporting to the Director, Public Affairs and Policy, you'll own the development and execution of a proactive PR and media strategy that supports the organisation's advocacy, policy, research and awareness objectives.
Working closely with senior leaders and internal stakeholders, you'll identify opportunities to strengthen visibility, enhance reputation and amplify the organisation's impact across key audiences. You'll be responsible for building strong media relationships, generating earned media opportunities and turning complex health, policy and research topics into compelling stories that resonate with the public, decision-makers and media.
You'll be trusted to bring ideas, challenge thinking, identify opportunities and build a media function capable of driving meaningful organisational impact. You'll work closely with an engaged leadership team, contribute to strategic organisational priorities and have the opportunity to shape how the organisation is seen, heard and understood nationally.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and leading the organisation's PR and media strategy
- Building and maintaining strong relationships across print, broadcast, digital and political media
- Identifying and securing proactive media opportunities
- Writing high-quality media releases, opinion pieces, statements and briefing materials
- Supporting major campaigns, advocacy initiatives and organisational priorities
- Preparing and supporting spokespersons for media engagement
- Sourcing and supporting people with lived experience to share their stories
- Monitoring media activity, measuring impact and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
- Providing strategic advice on reputation, messaging and emerging issues.
About You
You are a highly capable media, communications or PR professional who combines strategic thinking with a hands-on approach . You know how to identify a story, build relationships and create momentum. You're comfortable working autonomously, enjoy taking ownership and are energised by the opportunity to build and shape a function rather than simply maintain one.
You'll bring:
- Significant experience in public relations, media relations, communications or journalism
- Demonstrated success developing and delivering effective PR and media strategies
- Exceptional writing and storytelling capability
- Strong media networks or the ability to establish them quickly
- Experience securing earned media outcomes across multiple channels
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Strong judgement, initiative and accountability
- The ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and manage competing priorities.
