Australia for UNHCR is the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner in Australia, raising awareness and funds to support UNHCR’s global emergency response to humanitarian crises. It achieves this through the generosity of Australian individual donors, trusts, foundations and other organisations who donate to and partner with Australia for UNHCR to support its goals.


In this role you will have real autonomy to lead the organisations bequest program alongside an exciting and ambitious development team. Through your excellent relationship management skills, you will ensure that bequest fundraising is promoted to the Australian public effectively. Reporting directly into a brilliant Development Manager, you will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward bequest donors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build on and implement the organisations bequest strategy
  • Effectively manage existing confirmed bequestors
  • Form a robust bequest pipeline and identify opportunities to proactively promote the bequest program both internally and externally
  • Develop and implement initiatives to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward bequestors through various channels
  • Oversee and improve bequest communications, pipeline management, stewardship and estate administration
  • Focus on building relationships and developing a large pipeline through high levels of engagement
  • Engage and nurture supporters through various forms of communications including both phone and organising and running events
  • Update the pipeline and moves management system, ensuring a systematic and strategic approach to the program
  • Forecast bequest income and acquit bequest gifts
  • Liaise with Executors and Solicitors to track progress of Estate administration
  • Work through all administration matters
For this role, it is ideal that you have:
  • Experience working a in a Planned Giving role or significant high-level commercial relationships management experience
  • Experience working with donors, partners, HNWI or bequesters
  • Ability to develop and maintain successful relationships
  • Understanding of donor stewardship and the donor journey
  • Mature personality and the ability to build sensitive relationships
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proven experience managing budgets
