Community Engagement Officer
The Community Engagement Officer will provide an advice, assistance and referral service to Guild members and volunteers throughout New South Wales. The role includes promotion and protection of the interests of war widows.
- Administer, organise and maintain the Friendship Line documentation and automate processes.
- Schedule and manage volunteer roster.
- Onboard and train new volunteers.
- Provide support to the Friendship Line volunteers including debriefing.
- Organise meetings for volunteers and write articles for Guild Digest.
- Ensure all member requests for contact from the Friendship Line are acted upon.
- Analyse and categorise call requirements and assist with special member needs.
- Maintain up to date information on legislation and entitlements relating to war widows.
- Provide current information to war widows on their entitlements and concessions.
- Assist Guild staff in providing health and welfare advice and assistance to members by telephone, mail, at events or by personal interviews.
- Submit funding / grant applications to relevant organisations where appropriate, in order for the Guild to carry out various events, functions or services. Monitor expenditure and acquit successful grants according to the Grant specific requirements.
- Provide appropriate referrals and ensure follow-up of all member/family enquiries. Undertake case-work where applicable.
- Provide welfare advice to Guild and Social clubs within NSW, through welfare talks at Guild club meetings and Teleconferences from Head Office. Arrange speakers and activities for clubs.
- Assist Guild and Social Clubs with all issues which arise including finding new committee and coordinators when required.
- Prepare informative articles about current health and welfare issues for the Guild’s quarterly magazine and monthly e newsletter and Club newsletter.
- Prepare the Annual Reference Guide for war widows in NSW.
- Participate in the development of new welfare services and programs to promote the independence, security, good health and well-being of members.
To be suitable for this role you will have:-
- Degree in Social Science or Certificate IV in community services, welfare or aged care services.
- MS Office and data base management, including Microsoft and Dynamics.
- Undertake ongoing education and including Advocacy Training and Development Program (ATDP).
- Training and experience with the Veteran Community, welfare work, volunteers and older people.
- Communication skills including public speaking, counselling and training skills.
- Interpersonal skills including empathy, compassion, diplomacy, good judgement and active listening.
