About the Organisation
The Australian College of Midwives (ACM) is the peak professional body for midwives in Australia. We champion the profession through advocacy, education, and support, ensuring midwives are empowered to build fulfilling careers. About the Role
Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Midwife will lead the Advisory, Program and Education team to develop advisory capacity including policy submissions, committee representation, and thought leadership as well as program, and professional development excellence. You will represent ACM at a Federal and jurisdictional level. You will collaborate closely with the ACM team to deliver member value and impactful outcomes aligned with ACM’s strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy : Provide high level advice to the CEO. Lead ACM’s Advisory, Education, and Program teams.
- Advocacy & Representation : Represent ACM in expert panels, media, and policy forums. Influence national maternity care policy.
- Education & Programs : Oversee development and delivery of midwifery education and initiatives including the Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI).
- Professional Engagement : Develop guidelines, submissions, and position statements. Strengthen relationships with ACM branches and external stakeholders.
- Governance & Compliance : Ensure operational excellence, budget oversight, and alignment with ACM’s strategic goals.
- Be a national voice for the midwifery profession
- Lead strategic initiatives in a respected national organisation

You are a midwife with:
- Extensive clinical experience across diverse midwifery settings
- Experienced in policy development, submission writing
- Strong advocacy and leadership capabilities, with excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, lead teams, and influence policy
- A commitment to advancing midwifery and supporting member needs
- Ability to travel within Australia and occasionally overseas
- Ability to balance strategic priorities with tangible action to deliver impactful results
